Report: Kings intend to trade Butler; to Bucks?

Caron Butler can’t get time in Sacramento, and it’s not like his veteran leadership is as important on a team of mostly veterans. As a result, ESPN reports that the Kings are looking to construct a deal to get him more playing time.

Butler has strong community ties to the Milwaukee area and played for the Bucks in 2014 before being traded to Oklahoma City.

Butler has appeared in just 80 minutes across eight games this season for the Kings, who have a glut of wings. It’s a little surprising he can’t get time under George Karl who typically prefers veterans, but Karl’s rotation has been tight overall, and Omri Casspi has been one of their better players. If the Bucks do trade for him, they need to be careful. Butler’s not worth any sort of significant asset at this point. On the other hand, if they can peel Darren Collison away from the Kings somehow in any sort of deal, they should jump at that opportunity. Their point guard rotation is a hot mess.

Butler’s likely headed into a media role after his career’s done. His video series with Vice Sports about his experiences growing up and his book are both essential insights into the life of an NBA player who built himself up from nothing.
